"I'm too busy!!!!"

Updated: Jan 5, 2022

Yesterday I spoke on a Facebook post about how we can be guilty of telling ourselves that we’re “too busy”.

Too busy to

· Exercise

· Cook healthy meals

· Go to bed early

· Make time for ourselves

And it got me thinking back to how distraught I found myself when Lock Down hit.

I’d just started working part-time as a Personal Trainer in my local gym and was still trying to build up my business away from that.

My childcare costs were more than what I earnt each week!

I had one client.

My website wasn't even finished.

If that wasn't enough already, then Lock Down hit.

All of a sudden, I found myself with a business model that was useless for a business that that had barely taken its first breath.

How was I supposed to be a full-time parent, give the business a 360 makeover, develop my business, service my clients and find time to exercise myself??!

It was impossible! I was too busy!

I didn’t have 8 hours a day to throw into the business. I barely had time to go to the loo in peace.

I didn’t have times where I could train clients without interruptions from my 2-year-old.

I barely even had time to get a shower.

So I made time.

I prioritised what must be done, what should be done, and what could be done.

I switched things up to make time.

  • The kid started going to bed later, so that I could deliver early morning sessions whilst she still slept.

  • I swapped watching a film every night, for working on the business for 2 hours.

  • I dropped my showers a couple of times a week so that I could use that time to get my own training in. We weren’t allowed to leave the house, so what was the point anyway?!

  • I put my big girls pants on and endured dog fluff on the carpets for a day longer than usual.

  • I started shopping late at night, giving up an hour in front of the TV, as opposed to wasting a productive hour during the day to do it.

All of that gave me time.

Did it mean I got to my goal in the same timeframe? Did it heck! I can barely cover the gas bill at the moment, let alone anything else! It’s probably taken me 6 months to achieve what I would have achieved in 2 weeks without a child to also care for.

But the point is that I got my priorities straight, made time and as a result I made progress. It may have been small progress, but it’s progress and one step close to my goal, nonetheless.

I now have a business model where I can deliver quality online personal training at an affordable price. I'm able to offer clients a cost effective weight loss coaching service online, which is even better than the in-person service previously offered. I even have a small handful of clients, which was more than I had before!

If I hadn’t taken action, I’d still be at square one. My house would be a little bit less fluffy and I'd probably smell a tad sweeter. But I'd still be at square one.

This applies to all of us.

"I'm too busy" is just a rubbish excuse for 99.9% of us in the Western world. We're not "too busy", we're just scared to take action and haven't got our priorities straight.

And right now, your health should be your Number 1 priority.

If I can find several hours a day to develop a business to keep a roof over my head.

You sure as hell can find a couple of hours a week to dedicate to your health.

Start by sacking off your daily 2 hours in front of the TV. Go to bed an hour earlier instead, so you can get up an hour earlier to exercise/meal prep/do a daily chore to free up time later on in the day 😊

I love this. I'm so busy with work, the house, part time step mum, 5 dogs and a fiance. But I want to sort out my health long term so although I loathe mornings I've signed up to a free 10 day challenge and then the 12 week nutrition challenge and now I've also signed up to 2 x 7am PT sessions with Alex and I feel so much better after just 1 week of PT sessions and I've lost 4-5lb of fat in 7 weeks plus a couple of centimetres off my waist!
