Did you know that sitting at a desk all day is as bad as being a smoker?
I hate to tell you this, but it is.
A study of over 1 million people by Ekelund et al. in 2016 showed that spending 8 hours a day without doing any physical exercise, is like being a smoker or obese in terms of mortality risk.
But the good news is that you can counter this with exercise.
60-75 minutes of moderate activity per day, to be precise.
So, if you have a job which entails sitting at your desk all day.
You might want to think about how to fit in an hour or so of movement into your day.
It doesn’t have to be all out sprinting.
It could be walking the dog.
Going for a swim.
Gardening.
Resistance training (imperative to offset osteopenia [bone density loss] and sarcopenia [muscle loss] and a broken hip in your 70s, anyway).
Chasing the kids around the garden.
Housework.
Dancing.
All of them count.
But we have to get moving.
If you find it hard to exercise, then this is where having a coach can be key.
Because not only will you have your two sessions a week scheduled in with me.
But we can also brainstorm some ideas on how to get you moving during the rest of them week.
And you’ll have a clear programme set out.
As opposed to trying to wing it on your own and giving up because you’re not even sure it’s right.
Are you moving enough?
Or are you as good as smashing 20 ciggies/doughnuts a day and can’t see a way out?
If it’s the latter, then drop me a line today and
we’ll get you started straight away.
